Sony has raised the prices of its PlayStation 5 consoles in the United States. This change starts this week. The standard PS5 Digital Edition now costs $499.99. The disc version costs $549.99. The high-end PS5 Pro costs $749.99.

The company shared this news in a blog post. Isabelle Tomatis wrote it. She is the Vice President of Global Marketing at Sony Interactive Entertainment. The post explains how Sony is handling a tough economic situation. This led to the price hikes. But accessories keep their old prices. No changes for other countries yet.
Sony did this before. Earlier this year, they raised prices in Europe, Australia, and New Zealand. This is the second time. The U.S. change comes four months after that. Now, all three PS5 models cost more in America.
VR fans and serious gamers have mixed feelings about this. PS5 consoles are more expensive now. But the PS VR2 headset just got cheaper at $399. For people without a PS5, the total cost for Sony’s VR setup is under $900.
This matches what other big gaming companies did. Microsoft and Nintendo also raised prices this year. Gamers have different opinions. Some think higher prices will stop new buyers. Others hope for big discounts during holidays.
Sony has many exclusive games coming in late 2025 and early 2026. They count on high demand to ease worries.
