Meta’s latest VR headsets are enjoying a strong holiday season. According to the sales data from Amazon US, sales of the Quest 3 family in the past month have superseded that of Nintendo’s newest console, the Switch 2. The comparison has taken into account the last 30 days, including the black Fridays and new year gifting rush.

Quest 3 and Quest 3S units together have reached close to 154,000 sales on Amazon during this period, according to the estimates. The Switch 2 followed with roughly 150 thousand units sold. Nintendo released the system in June, while the Quest 3 line has been available for more than a year. Sales of PlayStation 5, PlayStation 5 Pro and Xbox Series X and S were lower than both Quest and Switch 2 in the same period.
The Amazon best sellers list for video game hardware reflects a similar picture. The Quest 3S with 128GB storage currently sits higher than the most popular Switch 2 bundle. Other entries for the Quest range also appear within the top ranks, while listings for PlayStation and Xbox fall further down.
Price seems to be an important factor. With seasonal discounts on the Quest 3S, it is priced near the 250 dollar mark, while the Switch 2 is almost 400 dollars. Quest 3S being relatively cheaper made it to the top of the tech gifters list who didn’t want to spend much yet give the giftee a console experience. Even so, the gap in pricing does not fully explain the close race. VR hardware has often been seen as niche, yet these figures suggest strong interest when the right mix of cost and features is offered.
Another angle to consider is how long buyers stay engaged. Meta has moved a large number of headsets over the years, yet many owners do not stick with VR for long. Plenty of users explore a handful of games and then drift away once the first wave of excitement fades. That slowdown makes it harder for Meta to earn steady revenue from apps and add-ons. To address this, the company has been urging studios to refine gameplay, polish interfaces and build software that encourages people to return more often, not just try VR once and move on.

What comes next may depend on how long Meta keeps prices low. Industry watchers expect the company to raise headset prices again once its newer software work is fully in place, which could change the sales picture in future holiday seasons.
