Capcom announced “No VR mode” for Resident Evil Requiem ahead of 2026 launch

Resident evil fans, assemble! In a recent interview with the producer, it came to light that Capcom has decided not to bring the newest title in the Resident Evil series, Resident Evil Requiem, into the VR world. The upcoming series is set to hit the stores on February 27, 2026 and will be available to play and download on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X and Series S, Windows PC, and Nintendo Switch 2.

Resident Evil Requiem VR support

Although the earlier parts were available on VR platforms, the newest edition in the franchise is not joining them, at least not for the next 3 months. In the interview, Kumazawa, the producer of the franchise, said that while there are no VR plans as of now and further discussions would happen once it’s out in the market. He explained that the game does include a first-person camera option to help immerse players in the experience. Other details surrounding the characters and related gameplays are still under the wraps and are expected to be shared by the end of this month.

The announcement has made fans wary as they enjoyed the immersive experience of previous titles, including Resident Evil Village and Resident Evil 4 Remake provided with the VR support. The first edition in the series to come with full VR support was Resident Evil 7: Biohazard, with initial launch PlayStation VR. While it drew significant interest from players, the VR mode never made it to PlayStation VR2. For other editions, VR support was introduced post launch. This new route that Capcom is taking for Requiem, suggests they may be planning to move away from VR for at least this project.

With a promise to offer a unique mix of horror and action, Resident Evil Requiem would offer features that would allow players to switch between first-person and third-person perspectives. This will provide a flexibility that is expected to attract both longtime fans and new players

As we approach the release date, players can expect more trailers, decals and updates from Capcom. The makers are also expected to giveaway information about additional features or post-release support. Till then, keep watching those trailers and building your theories around it.
