Gaijin Entertainment has just announced a new game Aces of Thunder PSVR2 and it’s not going to be a sequel to “War Thunder”.
It’s actually a spinoff and it’s coming straight to PSVR 2. The game is set to focus on WWII-style aircraft that you can control with your VR headset and controllers. There’s no release date for the Aces of Thunder, as of yet, but they’ve released some details on what you can expect. While the release version will only have WWII planes, future updates are planned to bring in the fighter jets of other eras as well, making it an all-around great-sounding flight sim.
So far it seems that it will be an online-only game, but that may change at any time. Details are sparse as the company prepares to announce its planned release date. It should also be noted that, unlike War Thunder, Aces of Thunder psvr2 will be a paid game with optional DLC available at release. However, according to Gaijin the DLC will only be cosmetic. That means that you get all available aircraft, plus future aircraft, included in your purchase. Any additional content is likely to come in the form of skins and other cosmetic additions.
Built for the PSVR 2
What makes this announcement so exciting is the fact that Aces of Thunder was designed specifically for the PSVR 2. No other game can currently claim anything close to that. The PSVR 2, itself, was just released on February 22nd, 2023. While it’s backward compatible with PSVR games, nothing has been created solely for it up until this point. That means that Aces of Thunder has the first crack at using the hardware to its limits and seeing what it can pull out. You don’t have to be an expert at console VR to know how exciting that concept happens to be.
That also means that it gets to take full advantage of the new hardware’s upgraded peripherals. Its redesigned controllers are meant to be groundbreaking in the way that use the new haptic controls offered by the PS5. They’re rebalanced and will allow you to play the games for hours on end. If everything works the way it’s supposed to, this can be the defining game of the entire generation, so far. Simply providing half of what’s been claimed should be enough to blow you away and keep you coming back to the game for a long time to come!
Online Battles
So far, the only online modes that have been announced are single duels, team versus team, and custom modes. It’s a dedicated flight sim, so controlling your plane is what it’s really all about. You get to sit in the cockpit and fly your aircraft around the battlefield, firing on other online players and trying to avoid getting yourself shot out of the sky. It’s an intense gameplay with the kind of full immersion that you can only get from virtual reality and there’s no doubt that it’s going to be a challenge as soon as you fire it up.
You have to keep in mind that Gaijin has stated that each plane will have physically accurate flight and damage models. They’ve been derived from War Thunder, which means that it’s going to be as realistic as it can get. Once you step into a plane, you’re going to feel like you’re actually flying this fighter from the 1940s and that’s something you just can’t get anywhere else. No matter what kind of gamer you are, checking this out is going to be mandatory and it might just turn you into an era flight sim junky!
Developed In-House
The entire Aces of Thunder game has been developed by a new in-house development team. That team was newly formed with members that all worked on War Thunder. That means they know the IP and know what they can get out of their flight sims. When you have industry veterans that have already perfected an entire genre making a new game, you know that it’s going to be something great. You can expect that same great War Thunder gameplay in a shiny, new package that puts you behind the controls of actual WWII aircraft for the very first time.
Aces of Thunder PSVR2 Release Date
Aces of Thunder psvr2 release date will be released later, there’s no word on when that will be. It’s likely that Gaijin is still finishing up the production of the game. Announcement trailers are typically released at least six months before a final release date is revealed. That’s when the creators are usually taking their physics and models and turning them into a playable game. Realistically, the more time they have to do that, the better the final product is going to look and feel. Although, it’s been common practice for studios to
release slightly unfinished games for the better part of a decade or so. You can also check out our guide to the best VR headsets to play other VR games in 2023.
What to Expect
What you can expect, at the end of the day, is a flight cockpit simulator that has the power of the newly released PSVR 2 behind it. It will take advantage of haptic controls and eye tracking within the VR headset. It will also have painfully accurate controls that will essentially teach you how to fly these WWII planes. No other console game has come close to creating anything like that, so it’s an exciting announcement to be sure. It might just be the best reason to upgrade your PSVR or buy into virtual reality in the first place.
You can most likely expect a final release date of Aces of Thunder psvr2 sometime in the next six months, maybe at the end of 2023. Until then, details are going to be pretty sparse. Don’t be surprised if you don’t hear another thing about it for months right now. Gaijin is going to want excitement for the game to grow while they work on finishing the whole thing up. Once it finally drops, it’s going to be a big seller and possibly, but this is just speculation, released as a PSVR 2 package just in time for Christmas. That’s just a guess though, so take that part with a grain of salt!
