Wear your seat belts and tighten the grip as you are about to take a long-awaited flight. Gaijin Entertainment has announced the release of the spin-off of your favorite, War Thunder. Scheduled to launch in Q4 of 2024, Ace of Thunder, the aerial combat simulator, is coming to both SteamVR and PlayStationVR2. This move is set to make the game even more accessible to VR enthusiasts.
Gaijin completely optimized the VR subsystem of their Dagor Engine to bring these VR ergonomics to the table. Aces of Thunder is specifically designed for VR. This means it will provide complete control of the cockpit, unlike other VR-optional flight sims. Aces of Thunder offers complete VR immersion, enabling players to push buttons, flip switches, and grab those flight sticks as if they were in a real plane.
Vladimir Dranyonkov, game director of Aces of Thunder, said, “We have re-evaluated our approaches to user interactions along with audio and visuals, which are so familiar from our previous experience with War Thunder. We also worked on addressing common comfort issues without harming the simulation aspect of aerial combat. This, we hope, will attract new pilots to our virtual skies.”
Gaijin has promised that Aces of Thunder will not be a sandbox experience like any other simulator on the market. Instead, there will be intense dogfights featuring “legendary aircraft in the most iconic theaters of war.” Players are in for a treat as they get to fly around 20 legendary aircraft at launch that are meticulously recreated to further the magic of the combat.
The roster is interesting, consisting of the top American, Japanese, British, German, and Soviet aircraft. What are the skies these birds will fly around? There are three prime locations, as per the developers. The three key theaters during World War II, including the Eastern Front, western Europe, and the Pacific Ocean, represented by 15 maps, come with the game. Players can hop in with their friends in the multiplayer mode or go on solo adventures.
While a new trailer was released recently, we still have limited details related to the pricing and specifications. More details are expected as we move closer to Q4.
